Highlander Wine & Spirits

For this location of Highlander Wine & Spirits, the client desired to make a departure from their more typical retail offering. Located in the architecturally stunning Eighth Avenue Place in downtown Calgary, this location required a more refined approach, as it serves as a luxury concierge service to their corporate clientele and also a boutique event space. Soaring full height glass walls line the exterior of the room, so the interior was designed to maximize the impact from the public causeway. The main retail wall features arched openings for product displays and exposes the concrete core wall beyond. To keep the view from outside as undeterred as possible, floating bottle racking was installed along the perimeter glazing. The white oak millwork used throughout acts as a reference to French oak wine barrels. The concrete floors and core walls were left exposed to contrast with all the refined finishes and contributes a rawness to the overall feel. A cash desk of gleaming brass and marble is a distinct showpiece in the space, as is the 15’ marble table in the tasting room.
